We are fundamentally ecological beings.  We are of the earth and deeply connected to that which sustains us.  At a fundamental level, we are deeply connected to the earth, to soil – and specifically to humus.  In Latin, the word humanus means human, and humus means ground. This relationship between the concepts of “man” and “ground,” is fascinating.  Humus is teeming with life. And humus is the part of the land that sustains life. This collage explores this relationship between humans and humus – with feet grounded in the soil – our roots in this most fundamental source of life.
