August Oregon Grape

August Oregon Grape
I love foraging for wild foods – though I am very cautious about doing so. I rely on wisdom of native locals and elders to guide me. Oregon Grape is native to Oregon (hence the name) and other western states. And while the berries are not grapes (nor do they taste anything like grapes), they are edible nonetheless – though very tart. The best way to use the berries is to make jam, pie or wine. Anything where sugar is added! This collage honors this native local and the locals that know how to use its gifts.
