We’ve started!  Wow!  This class is jam-packed with goodness – information, encouragement, amazingly talented artists for inspiration, and of course, good old-fashioned design time.

This week’s focus was the bolt fabric industry.  The week’s lessons were chock-full info about this market and the week culminates in an assignment that could be applied to the fabric market.  I won’t get into detail about the assignment, but thought I would share the icons I developed for this week’s assignment…

I must admit that I was fully scared and intimidated when I started class on Monday.  Other classmates shared some of their work and – WOW!! – there is some serious talent in the virtual classroom!  Holy moly!  But after working thought the initial “back-to-school-jitters” I just got into making the art and relaxed into it.  I actually had a lot of fun making these.  It’s still all paper and paint with just a little ink and my new favorite tool – the Fabre Castell Pitt Artist Pens  (LOVE love love these things!).  So I stuck with mixed media/collage (yes, in my comfort zone) for this one.  But I plan to branch out in coming assignments.

I have already realized that I need to learn a lot more about the use of Photoshop and Illustrator.  I know the basics and can certainly get around, but I know I could be a LOT more efficient with the use of those tools.  They are such powerful programs.  Anyone know of some good online courses on CS5 or 6?  I’m all ears!

In the meantime, I’m sitting here all excited to have submitted my first week’s assignment and readying myself for the next week’s classes.  Feeling full of creative buzz!  🙂
