It has been a while. Summer days are here again and time has been passing faster than ever. I’ve been trying to soak it all in as much as possible. Lately, I’ve been paying particular attention to my attitude towards the sweet verses the “sour” moments. I want to stay open to it all. After all, life is filled with both and its richness comes from the contrast of it all – those moments that have both the sweet and the sour all mixed together. And in keeping with that effort this post is a simple stream of sweet and sour moments, gratitudes of sorts. I hope you can relate and enjoy the “and-both-ness” of it all. (more…)
Hello friends – and especially all the papas out there. This weekend is Father’s Day and I’d like to take a moment to send some love out to all the dads. One of our papa friends used to joke with us that both Mother’s and Father’s days were holidays dreamed up by clever mamas. His logic went something like this – on Mother’s Day all the dads are expected to take the kids to give the moms a break and then on Father’s Day, dads are given the “opportunity” to take the kids so they can spend time enjoying their fatherhood. I always got a good laugh out of this because in a lot of circles it really is true. And I know plenty of mamas out there who would argue that it is totally legit to give the papas any and all extra time with the kids. While I know that some dad stereotypes may have some validity, I just gotta take this moment to say, that’s not the reality I see in my world. (more…)
Wow. Can you believe spring has finally arrived? I know. I know. In some parts of the world, spring has been here for months… You may even be thinking more summery thoughts by now. But here in the mountains, spring has just arrived, and boy am I ever glad she’s here. I love the renewal of life, new beginnings and fresh energy. But, if you’re anything like me, you have to check yourself when you feel the burst of spring energy. Often, the hustle of spring cleaning, house projects, outdoor activities, birthday parties, lessons, and team sports can leave you wound up and wiped out in short order. That’s why this mama is trying out a new motto…
With the divisive tone of our political climate, the endless winter weather here in the Pacific Northwest, and the lack of togetherness generated by way too much time in front of a screen – I’m craving some connection! In case any of you are feeling the same way, I thought I would do a little brainstorming on ways to foster connection as a simple reminder for us all. I hope you find it helpful! So let’s dive in, shall we? (more…)
This week I found inspiration in an unexpected place and I really felt compelled to share it with you. Here in the Pacific Northwest we’ve had a ridiculous amount of snow, rain, sleet, ice – precipitation in all its forms. It has been relentless and while I know it is so so so good for the water table, aquifers, rivers, streams ,and all that depend on them – I am feeling beat down by all the energy given to managing life in this weather. This coupled with the craziness and uncertainty of the political climate has left me (and so many others I know) feeling disoriented, tired and a little crazy. Inspiration has been fleeting when it comes. But this week I found inspiration in a big way and in a really unexpected place… (more…)
I’m feeling like a light has been rekindled in my heart after participating in the women’s march in Portland last weekend. It was powerful and moving and renewed my faith in humanity all at once. So good. Following this experience (and in light of Valentine’s Day coming up in a few weeks), I’m feeling that love is in the air. (more…)
I’m marching in the women’s march in Portland on Saturday. I have never done anything like this before, but I feel so called to do it that when the opportunity arose, I said yes without thinking for a second about whether or not I should. I’ve since thought more about it. We’ve had winter storms of epic proportions here. Am I really sure I want to travel to the city on snow covered roads to do this? And the answer is a clear, resounding… Yes. Why? The answer that keeps coming up for me is this…
Happy New Year! Wow, wow, wow. Can you believe it’s 2017? I’m so grateful for all that 2016 brought us including a new, temporary home surrounded by an amazing community of friends and neighbors, a new pre-school for our little man, venturing into the wholesale market in my business, pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone, and so much more. I feel like we’re headed for some major shifts this year. Our political climate is the most obvious looming change, but I believe there are some big shifts ahead environmentally, spiritually and socially as well. And for me, I feel the call to take some action.
Hard to believe it, but there are only four days left to 2016.
I plan to write a post reflecting on 2016 and my intentions and dreams for 2017, but that will have to wait for another day. Today, I am writing for three reasons. (more…)
Hello friends! It’s that time again. The holidays are here. Snow is falling and friends are calling “Yoo-hoo!” (Sorry, couldn’t help myself.)
Not sure about things in your part of the world, but around here this holiday season feels different. I feel like we’re on the cusp of a change that is much more than the change from fall to winter or from 2015 to 2016. I have this feeling that we are at the end of an era and at the beginning of a new one. I’m not just talking about politics – though of course that is the biggest example. I’m feeling it with long-time friends moving out of state, kindergarten on the horizon for our little man, friends losing loved ones, others bringing new babies into the world, and on and on. We all go through seasons in life and I often sense the transition to a new season before it happens. But I’m telling you, this new season feels BIG – like global big. I feel like nearly everyone that I know is going through a shift of some sort. So when choosing gifts for people this year, I’ve been more contemplative about it than in the past . What do you give to people who are in the midst of a big shift of some sort? I’ve found myself attracted to gifts that nurture, inspire and support. If you’re in search of some ways to do some giving that includes these values too, look no further. (more…)
