Using found materials to form new artistic creations!

About the Artist: Jordan Vinograd Kim
"I use magazines, junk mail
and scrap paper as the medium for my collages. In high school I started using
"junk" to make art because I didn't have a budget for art supplies. I've
continued with this medium because I like the challenge of using one image to
create another. This technique is also a way to combine my love of art with my
beliefs in resource conservation.
When using one image to create another, there are many subtle variables that
cannot be controlled (i.e.: the way a strand of hair lies, skin tones, etc.)
Some might try to manipulate the medium to make it their own, to somehow force
it into a semblance of order. However, this is where I try to lighten up. Much
like swimming with the current rather than against it, I let these nuances
determine how the piece will develop. I am consistently surprised with how each
piece develops and turns out and I think my work tends to reflect this process.
I have a minor in Studio Art from the
University of Missouri in
Kansas City. I have always loved doing art, but decided to pursue a
career in natural resource management. I currently work for the
Hood River Soil and Water Conservation
District as the Assistant Manager and live with my husband, Won, in
Parkdale, Oregon."
